Glad there’s something we agree on! I’ve heard the arguments before. I don’t think they’re without merit. But from what I’ve seen, and from how I’ve watched the international community report on it, I’m very convinced it’s the Republicans who stand as the greater threat to democracy in this country. And as much as they tout free speech, Florida is a great example of exactly the opposite. Republican leadership has resulted in colossal assaults on free speech and book bans.

If the most fervent progressives had their way, I think we’d live in a country where people need to walk over egg shells and avoid the R word. But Trump’s rhetoric has often risen to the “yelling ‘fire!’ in a crowded theater” sort of exception that goes beyond accepted free speech. And I’m very convinced that in this country that still jails marijuana smokers en masse, Trump would be in prison if he weren’t a billionaire for a rap sheet a tenth as long as his own.
