Have the ones you've gone to at least given you the option to turn off the water? 😂 In Avatar, I thought those effects were well employed and added a fun novelty to the experience. I think I might have turned them off for part of it. With a rollercoaster of a plotline like that, the effects didn't really take away anything. I saw it twice in theaters and had a distinctly better time with the 4DX screening.
With Antman, I agree with you. Jarring and unwelcoming nearly from beginning to end. I'd been reluctant to try it again after that, but I've been coming to realize that a lot of the enjoymenet of these just hinges on how well the effects are calibrated to the movie. I think 4DX in its best applications just heightens the appeal of why someone would wanna go to the movies for a mindless action to begin with.
For many movies I'd never even consider the option. But for Godzilla, I thought it added to the experience.
