I absolutely agree.

…d a natural right, of online content is its discoverability through Google or other search engines. However, with Medium’s latest update, even if an article is superbly optimized for search engines and appears at the top of search results, most people who click on it cannot read it unless they sign up for Medium. In an age when people are inundated with similar requests, I don’t believe the majority will do so.

I absolutely agree. So much of why I joined Medium myself is because of those few articles I'd been allowed to read for free. If I hadn't, I wouldn't have joined.
