I don't say this lightly, (as you're one of my very favorite writers on the platform) but this was one of my very favorite pieces I've read of yours yet.
I love the humorous, light-hearted tone you have throughout this. You made me laugh out loud at a few points hahaha.
I think your tone is one that the subject demands more of. I hate the thinking the religion is a sacrosanct part of society that can never be questioned. I consider religion one of the great dangers to our world, and it absolutely demands to be challenged.
Even while I agree with pretty much every pillar ofthe satanist belief system, I do take some slight issue with the fact that they call themselves that.
This may not be a great analogy, but it reminds me a bit of the people who smugly call themselves "sapiosexuals" just so they don't have to adhere with one of the more standard sexual labels in society. If satanists believe what they do, I truthfully think they should just abandon that label entirely. I feel like it makes it far harder for the ideology to grow and just invites controversy at every turn. "Satanist" seems plainly like a misnomer to me. I prefer the obviously-kidding approach of the church of Pastafarianism. There's just no room to confuse that what these people believe in is... nothing. In people who call themselves satanists, I still see this religious-like desire to belong to something; it's not enough to just be privately sacreligious and have rational beliefs about the universe.
A fascinating and thought-provoking piece, Liberty!!
