I hope it doesn’t seem as though I’m apathetic to the cause. As far as whether transgenderism is a phenomenon that exists, I agree with you that it’s not a subject worth debating. I can see why that would frustrate you to your core.
That last point you raised I think actually ties into some of what I’m saying here. People who are trans tend to focus on the issue at hand in a way that doesn’t seem typical to me of other threatened minority groups.
A year ago I actually joined this writing group for nanowrimo that I hadn’t realized beforehand consisted of only transgender members. They were all really sweet people and I’ve stayed regularly in touch with a few of then. When we weren’t writing though, gender was always the topic of discussion. It was a bit strange to me how infrequently the conversation would drift anywhere else at all. Of course I’m only speaking from personal experience, but it did seem to me to speak to a larger trend I’ve seen at play within the movement.
