I might even go as far as advocating for an outright return of the offensive. I don't think we should go around being cruel or hurtful to each other, but in my eyes comedy is one area of life that demands this pass. If South Park couldn't make jokes about minorities, it wouldn't be South Park. And in being a show willing to push any and all buttons, I think it's had a greater societal impact than just about any satire ever made.
I didn't used to love the "Grow thicker skin!" argument, but I've gradually felt a bit more as though that's the best approach. At the end of the day, we'll live in a comedy free world if no one can ever be the butt of any joke. Maybe a line exists, but I'd be reluctant to ever try saying where that line is exactly. I'd sooner see people offended than live in a world free of any possible offense.
Have you discovered Shane Gillis yet? I'd call him one of the freshest new faces in comedy. And he makes zero effort to refrain from offending people. He's great.
