I never realized quite how much i didn’t like that word until reading this lol. That “compelled to do what?” Point is hilarious.

It makes me think of my banned words list, which, unlike the ban on linking verbs, was actually pretty useful. One point i’ll always remember is to never use the word “good” when you could use “incredible,” or “run when you could use “dash,” or “happy” when you could use “elated.” Almost all of the words on the list, when i think about it, really didn’t convey anything very meaningful. It was a pretty useful way of learning english in retrospect. Many of my high school teachers taught me a lot more than my college professors truthfully.

Great piece, Janice. It’s always fun thinking about the little intricacies of words.
