I see both sides on this one. I think there's a point at which comedy can enter into "fire in a crowded theater territory," but if no one were able to be offended in comedy, comedy wouldn't be comedy. And as you briefly mention, I think there's a lot of true value and progress that can emerge from offense. If comedians aren't allowed to speak openly, I think we'd lose a lot as a society.
