I think funnily enough, South Park really colored my perception of that character. I think he's got a certain charm that Lithgow doesn't, but that he also feels like less of a real person and a bit more of a caricature. That said, I think Gwynne is a lot of what defines the original. There's something to be said for him in the role, too, don't get me wrong!
