I think if there's a single most important message from my piece, it's to hope for the best and prepare for the worst. I don't expect the best myself. But an argument for it can be made, and I hoped by articulating it I could help offer just a bit of relief in dark times. It's not impossible that our most pessimistic fears won't actually come to fruition. But that doesn't mean I'm not beginning to consider life in other countries.
