I think that when I said "The film makers consulted with NASA and other experts of the field to realize rather than exaggerate the unyielding realities of life outside of earth." that really isn't a total hyperbole. Of course the film takes its liberties, but I can't think of another space movie that feels so grounded and realistic. For me, the feeling of realisim is just about as important as whether the science actually holds up.
If the movie were confined to always following the laws of physics perfectly, it wouldn't have been quite as exciting of a movie. For me it made for a far more memorable film than the martian.
