I think you’re right that there’s not a whole lot of use in debating with people who believe transgenderism should be literally eradicated. But I think there’s a whole lot more nuance than that between the people involved in the movement and those who might take some issue with it. I think you’re right, too, that the funding behind some of these more radical anti-trans figures is a major threat. I don’t feel as though the hatred or lack of understanding toward transgenders is historically that different from what jews, blacks or other minorities have faced though.
A lot of my insight into what the trans community demands is actually based in what I’ve seen more than a few of its members demand. I don’t believe it’s all of them who are making demands, of course. But the sentiment that I shouldn’t be allowed to enjoy harry potter because of what J.K. Rowling said isn’t something I just made up for the sake of argument.
And even though I don’t agree with Rowling’s stances, I haven’t seen a reason to believe she actively hates or fears trans people. Her stance certainly didn’t seem rooted in anger. I’m also not sure how any of what Chapelle’s said regarding trans people is unique from the jokes he’s made about any other minority. Why does making jokes mean that he hates trans people?
