I'd tend to agree. While it's never useful to put all of Muslims in a camp, and there are certainly those believers in the religion who've arrived at strictly peaceful interpretations for their religious texts. But there are also passages in the Quran where just about the only reasonable interpretation is a violent one. It's a uniquely violent religion and one that's less conducive to coexistence with the rest of the world. That's another part of this conversation that often gets swept over. People are quick to fall into this "all religions are equal and deserve to be respected!" stance and forget that some texts explicitly condone genocide and jihad. I really like the way that Sam Harris speaks about Islam, and the comparison he makes to the Jainism religion. Strict interpretations of one lead to violence, and strict interpretations of the other are unproblematic.
