I'm not sure that it's been quite as dramatic a shift from Kamala on that point as you say. I seem to recall her being pretty explicit about these dangers that Trump poses all along. I'm of two minds on this issue. On one hand, I don't think that continuing to complain about Trump's threats to the nation will suddenly reach the masses. But on the other, I think people are right to call out the NYT for what's been some pretty softball reporting on this race until very recently. To not call a spade a spade is to be dishonest about the real threat we're up against. But to speak honestly is to lose just about any undecided voter who might be open to persuasion.
So I agree with you on that point. This has been a hard line to toe these past few months. I try my best to not be one of the writers on Medium whose blindly left-leaning in his stances, and can't acknowledge fault on my own side. But oftentimes in writing about Trump and covering what's literally happened, it's hard to speak objectively without losing people. I think that's one of the unfortunate side effects of our country living in realities comprised of entirely different sets of facts. I can quote Trump directly and pull video footage and present all the evidence in the world he's fascist, but people still see these accurate appraisals as fighting words.
Thanks for reading, John!
