I'm seriously thrilled you feel that way, Jeffrey. You're definitely one of my favorite writers on Medium. And I'm glad the unreasonably wide range of topics is no problem in your eyes!

Would you say as a reader, there's ever a time on here where you'd think less of the publication (or any publication in general) if they publish some work that's substandard? Would you just move on to the next piece and not think much of it?

One of the places I still struggle a bit as an editor is when I'm scared of discouraging an author, or they're writing English as a 2nd or 3rd language and it would simply be too much work to bring it up to a place where it's a very passable standard of writing. There's certainly a level of poorly put together that I won't publish regardless, but it's always nice to hear others' thoughts on how they'd walk this line on here if they were editors.
