I’m sorry you’re feeling that way! And you’re most definitely not alone. One bit of advice I heard early on that’s been really helpful for me to reflect back on is that “medium is a platform of writers more than it is a platform of readers.” I’ve had quite a few connections with people on here that felt authentic and then quietly fizzled out. Some of that I think is fakeness. But there’s also just an overwhelmingness to these digital lives we’re all leading. Reading an article takes more time than leaving a like on a piece of artwork on IG. I try not to interpret losing someone’s readership (or the total lack of support from my real life friends) as anything personal. There’s only so much time we have to give to others. I feel bad that I can’t find more time to read and engage with the authors I most value, but it’s never anything personal. Keep writing! I’d hate to see you leave Medium.
