Is your thinking then that the scientific claims are only to be taken metaphorically? Faith is one thing in my eyes if it's the oblique belief in some unknowable higher power, but it's another when it's the belief in claims that can be scientifically disproven. I don't think the two are at odds on absolutely every issue, but the story the Bible offers on creation, for example, is a series of claims which can be examined scientifically. It's a genetic, biological fact that we didn't descend from two single people and millennia of incest. And it's a historical fact that throughout history science and religion have almost always been at odds.
