It doesn’t seem like you’re very up to date on a lot of the research here. You’re not wrong that it’s possible to become addicted to anything, but the instance of hallucinogen addiction is incredibly small when compared with so many legal drugs. Additionally, the instance of people becoming addicted to more serious drugs after exploring hallucinogens is significantly reduced when compared with alcohol or painkillers. There are hundreds of accounts, though, of people turning their lives around because of hallucinogens and breaking away from addiction.
The science isn’t as fringe as you fear. It’s places like John Hopkins that are doing this research, and I can personally attest that their findings aren’t bullshit. I’m not sure why it is that you’re so angry about this piece. These experiences have helped me and thousands and thousands of others and more and more studies are beginning to explain why. It’s not everyone who stands to gain from psychedelics, but to say it’s no one who does is flatly unscientific. The rate at which they improve lives is measurably higher than the tools psychiatrists have now. I’d recommend reading into this a bit more. https://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/news/newsroom/news-releases/psychedelic-treatment-with-psilocybin-relieves-major-depression-study-shows
