It was this light that woke you up or it happened when you were already fully awake? If it was from sleep, I'd say this sounds a bit like how I've heard people describe sleep paralysis. I've actually never experienced that mysefl, but I've certainly experienced hallucinations in that hypnogogic state between awake and asleep. Regardless, that sounds like a bizarre experience!
