I've noticed a lot of positive changes with the new payment system since it was back when it was initially launched and had its fair share of issues. It's not perfect now, but I agree that it feels far more possible to be discovered for new accounts than it used to a year ago.

I'm also ambivalent about the friend of medium membership. I think there's already a huge subtle psychology around it, and that people who sign up have a bit of an advantage by being distinguished in that way. I hadn't noticed those friend only r4r groups yet, but I'm hardly surprised.
