Lately I've been thinking of it as more of a mountain. I think that each step further up it we take, there's a risk for a far worse fall than a week before. For example, when the world didn't have internet, the grid going down was hardly a concern. Now, a cyber attack could cripple entire enconomies and nations. And like you're pointing out with how more and more nations have atomic weapons.

I don't think the moral pendulum matters if we have religious fanatics with weapons who welcome the end of civilization. I don't think it will matter if amateurs can prompt pocket AIs to instantly write malware.

I don't like to be too alarmist, but if this is a pendulum, I think it's an accelerating one and that if the axis is going to break, we're nearing that point. I just hope it breaks on the side of good.

I'm still excited for the future. But I'm constantly feeling like we're either heading toward somewhere wonderful, or somewhere horrendous with not a lot of in between. I'm holding out for the future with stellar travel and AIs that negate the need for 9-5s lol.

Beautiful piece, Liberty. Thanks for inspriring my long-winded reflection here!
