On a gut reaction level, the idea of putting a chip into my brain sounds like a terrifying Black Mirror episode. But if some of the promises of the technology are actually realized, it might be enough for me to reconsider once all the guineapigs get the kinks worked out. The abilitty to download a textbook worth of information and have that knowledge going forward? Or to retain my clarity into old age? Or control cybernetic limbs Terminator-style when my body fails me? The benefits may just outweigh the risks!

When I look at my digital life already, I really doubt it would be quite the leap so many fear it would be to put a chip into our heads. Many of us have been digital creatures for over a decade already. What that would mean for the writing profession, though, I can hardly even fathom. Thanks for reading, Simon!
