One of my favorite aspects of Civil War (have you seen it yet?) was that it brought to life the possible reality that we're headed toward in harrowing detail. I'd been a little concerned it might almost romanticize the conflict. But I think it really speaks to that idea that, as you say, so many of us just struggle to get past that "it couldn't happen here!" thinking. It was a really hard movie to watch, but I'm not sure I've ever felt so viscerally invested in the stakes of this election.
