Safer than my entire system of government and integrity of my vote was during the insurrection, that’s for sure. And yes, it was an insurrection. Maybe not history’s most serious ever, but to state that the overthrow of government wasn’t the goal that day is plainly untrue. Rioters and militiamen who were there have stated as much. See the quote I included in the beginning of the article. It’s not a matter of opinion. Try to observe what happens if you click on some of those hyperlinks I added in to support my argument. There’s copiously documented footage of the insurrection, as well as the behind the scenes plot to change the results of the election with an alternate slate of electors. On january 6th literal guillotines were erected as “hang mike pence!” was chanted and elected politicians had to run for their lives. This “totally not an insurrection” argument just doesn’t hold up to the evidence.

I won’t dismiss the BLM protests as a non-issue, but their goal objectively *was not* to throw out the results of a democratic election and keep the loser in power at all costs.
