Snuff film isn't an entirely inaccurate way to describe it. But one analogy I just thought of is to the classic It's a Wonderful Life "see the world without you in it" example. Civil War is a glimpse into all we have to lose as a country, and possible a dose of realism for some of the people who romanticize real-life civil war. It's a reminder to be thankful for what we have and why we should try to preserve it. There are tones that could have been taken for this movie that would have felt inappropriate, but I think Garland was conscientious in his approach. Thanks for reading, David!
