Spectacularly written, Colby. A profound reflection. I enjoyed every word of this. Your experience really resonates with me, not just because we seem to love a lot of the same music and even discovered it in largely the same way, but because I feel like I remember asking my dad that very same question. As a kid, I didn't enjoy The Beatles' love-oriented songs as much and had a surprising affinity toward some of their more introspective music. ("Help!" is the song I credit with getting me into music at age 5. I actually did a piece on the experience only just the other day, oddly enough!) Thanks for sending this one in.
