Thank you so much for taking the time to leave such an incredibly well thought out comment, Jörgen! You raise some really valid points, a couple of which I hadn't actually considered. A tiered membership approach could maybe be a useful strategy.

As frustrated as I am by this change, one thing I'd never pretend is that Medium's job here is easy. I don't imagine figuring out a path forward is even remotely simple. It's easy to complain about these issues, and point them out as they arise, but ultimately, I don't know how to get Medium to a place where it's generating money, and providing value to both writers and readers across the board. Hopefully in time we'll get there. Hopefully I'm wrong that these latest changes are a step in the wrong direction.
