Thanks so much for taking the time to read, Jan! Are you a fan of games at all yourself? Or prefer to put that time into books, too? I couldn't agree more. Video games are traditionally a subject that really seems to languish here and on Substack. I've noticed that for a while now. I'm truthfully a little reluctant to even post this one over there. Building a following based on email subscriptions is a unique challenge, and I sometimes feel a little more pigeonholed into writing on a limited array of subjects on Substack because of it. I've been surprised a few times to see less traditional subjects perform well, and I've gradually gotten a bit more risky, but I feel a bit more comfortable posting a wider array of content over here because all of my followers don't get notified of everything I publish.
I've seen articles written about podcasts, but it's just now occurring to me how untapped of a niche general podcast reviews are. I'm not sure I recall one single piece submitted to my pub, or that I ever saw on Substack, that reviewed a whole podcast. Given their cultural importance, that definitely seems like a similar injustice to with video games.
