My First Satire

The Teacher Sit-in (the Headphone Protest Satire)

In twelfth grade, I wrote for my high school newspaper. As the life-long South Park fan that I was (and still am), I reintroduced a satire section to the paper. This was the first satire I published as well as the first satire I ever wrote. Names have been changed but the rest of the piece has been kept the same. The satire is based on a student protest that was held over a ban on our headphones. I’ve attached that story here, as it provides some necessary background to the satire below it. I’d appreciate if you took the time to read both!

Discontented with the abuses of freedom of the student body, the teachers of Cheltenham High School arranged a sit in. Though the day started out like all others, the same energized morning announcements and the same homeroom bells… what happened next was unprecedented. Staff members from all walks of Cheltenham life, teachers of the english and math department alike, gym teachers, language teachers, even a few members of the custodial staff, sat in the halls.
