There was something really special about that relationship, and you’re right to read into it. It’s strange to say, but I’ve never been quite as happy in a relationship as I was during the best moments of that middle school one. It was a pretty textbook “young and in love” scenario. I should write more about it.

Ever since then, I’ve hoped for that fire in the sky romance you mention and never quite found it. But maybe those sort of bonds being so unsustainable is why our relationship only lasted a year. Sometimes I worry that I’ll never quite be able to recreate those feelings from that first relationship, and approaching everything with so much naivety. I’ve done a lot of settling as an adult. I hope it doesn’t always need to be that way.
