This feels like a really incomplete way of painting it. If Trump had succeeded in January 6th, my vote wouldn't have counted. He tried to invalidate the result of the election because he didn't win it. Even McConnell said he was practically and morally responsible for the riot that ensued. On a very objective level, he is a man who has committed crimes. Well before he ever took office that was the case. If he hadn't committed crimes, and in copious quantities for decades on end, I don't think he would have been "targeted." There wouldn't have been a basis for the charges to stick. Instead, the evidence at hand has been enough to convince unbiased juries that he's guilty of what he's accused of.
It would be one thing if they were baseless, made up charges, but they were leveled against him over real acts that he committed. It's not weaponizing the justice system. It's the justice system functioning. It's a criminal being held liable for things it can be proven that he's done and said.
