This is a really interesting question to grapple with. I have many favorite songs, but I'm not sure I would go back to hear any of them a first time! At least not if it means that I couldn't have had that song when I was younger. Also, a lot of the memories I have around these songs are what give them their meaning. So for "Poles Apart," "It Feels the Same Everyday" and many Beatles songs, they'll always be colored by that first time that I heard them and how the words spoke to me then. If I heard them for the first time today, they may not hold that same meaning at all. Many of the songs I liked in high school don't even sound good to my ear today, but I'm still glad I had them!
