This is something I only learned about fairly recently, but now I think about all the time. It's so strange to think that the invention of "correct" spelling really is just that--an invention. And a pretty new one, at that. It's easy to forget that language is always changing. Now that "irregardless" is in the dictionary, who can rightly say it's wrong?
