Though I haven't actually read any of Christine's work that I can recall, I have pretty similar feelings toward J.K. Rowling's writing. Revisiting the first few HP books during lockdown, I was shocked at how unspectacular they were compared with what I'd remembered. It really isn't until the 4th book or so that I began to feel impressed with her writing. The series is riddled with flaws and inconsistencies. But still, I'm almost always willing to excuse them just because of what her world meant and still means to me. It doesn't matter to me if it isn't fully cohesive. Those books were some of the first books that helped me to enjoy reading! Really enjoyed reading your thoughts here.
